Big news in my little world! I finally got a Pro Tools session to open. Yes, there were errors on launch, but I could at least get in and work. It’s been way too long since I’ve been able to get at these sessions. So, I just got done making some adjustments to Made To Break and sent the mix back to be mastered. Hopefully, that’ll solve some issues. He also sent me the last two tracks the other night. One of them sounded great and the other he’s gonna make some adjustments for me. I’m definitely on the downhill with this project.

Quick update: Of course the used Mbox 2 came in and decided to apparently break in transit or something. So out of frustration I bought a new Mbox 3. It’s a nice upgrade for me, but I wasn’t looking to spend the money there. Oh well.

Ive been out of town but I’ll start messing with the project tomorrow.

The update is that after a ton of trial and error I still can’t get into my Pro Tools sessions. Even though I had this setup working before, it was a fluke. So, long story short, I’m having to buy a used Mbox 2 Pro off ebay just to get going again. I was trying to avoid this, but it seems it can’t be avoided. I was going to deal with this issue eventually. They’ve been trying to fade out my original Mbox for years. Hopefully the Mbox 2 will be here soon because the good news from last week is that I finally have someone mastering the tracks for me. It’s cost me a little coin, but what I’m getting is a steal. So, I definitely owe a couple favors for this. The guy is giving me good notes on things to help the overall mix on a couple tracks, but I can’t get into the sessions just yet to adjust these things. The suggestions are mostly minor, but can have a big difference in the mastering phase. I’ve already heard four of the tracks with a crack at the mastering. It was exciting to hear.

So, at least the extended wait has resulted in getting the album properly mastered, and I get to learn a bit about the mastering process from a different perspective.

I’ve definitely been buying back up hard drives, replacing surge protectors, and double-checking all my data and programs. It’s been time-consuming between my three computers, but I think when I get this Mbox and can open up Pro Tools, I’ll at least be back to where I was a month or so ago. It’d been a crappy month, but my situation is better on this end of it at least.

I’d hate to say when the album will be released [for obvious reasons] but it really shouldn’t be too much longer. I can’t wait to move on.

Over the past month my path to finishing the EP was brick-walled. It seems the interruption actually had a positive effect, though. Good news coming very soon.

I haven’t forgotten about the music. The quick update is that this project has been marred recently by my work schedule and the aftermath of the lightning strike. Can’t complain about the work, but what’s taking longer is setting my office back up and trying to back everything up more properly. I’m actually and scarily about to not only reload my PC, but upgrade from XP to Windows 7. The lightning strike has me wanting to do things a little differently now and my PC has been acting a little screwy this past year anyway. So, I’m getting this done while I’m in “office setup” mode.

I will get back to the album soon. Today I’m back to trying to figure out why Pro Tools won’t open while I reload Windows on my other machine. Nothing fun about this at all.
